Moms Push For Dental Fix

Imagine having a toothache and waiting six months to see a dentist. While their children (like the Crenshaw twins and Ashley Agosto, in photo) played in a side room, moms told stories like that to State Sen. Toni Harp as they organize to fix a problem—the fact that the state pays dentists only a third of their customary rate to treat families on Medicaid.

Jumping for Health

New Haven schools are leading the way toward healthier students, and the system provided another example at Katherine Brennan School on Wednesday with the announcement of a grant to integrate physical activity into academic
lessons in the classroom. Kids in one of the second grade classes provided a hands- and feet-on demonstration of the pilot program.

After the ziti and green salad, after panelists spoke briefly about how it works, after the hour-and-a-half “Update on the Medicare Part D Benefit” conference at 1 Long Wharf Dr. wrapped up, an astonishing fact was revealed. Beverly Kidder (in photo), of the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut and one of the conference’s panelists, was asked how much it would cost the federal government to just cover all prescriptions for people on Medicare instead of privatizing the “benefit,” which has resulted in mass confusion with numerous private plans to choose from.
