Lawsuit : Cop Shooting Was Hospital’s Fault

by Staff | Nov 21, 2006 9:56 am | Comments (5)

The hospital’s fault, and the fault of caregivers who didn’t deal properly with a mentally ill man. That’s the gist of a new lawsuit filed by the estate of Hiram Marrero, the knife-wielding psychotic man who was killed by a New Haven cop in a case that plunged the city into a reexamination of how police deal with the mentally ill and led to a recommendation to arm officers with Tasers (pictured). City Seeks HUSKY Awareness Funds

by Melissa Bailey | Nov 20, 2006 9:54 pm | Comments (0)

The City of New Haven approved an application Monday for $50,000 in state funds to get out the word to uninsured kids about the HUSKY state health insurance plan. The city’s application plugs into a recent state initiative to use $1 million to spread HUSKY awareness to the state’s uninsured kids — 68,000 children under 18 spent last year without health insurance, according to Connecticut Voices for Children.
