Rell Backs Dems On VA Voting Drives

(Updated 7:35 p.m.) The federal government should allow voter onsite voter registration drives for hospitalized veterans, Gov. M. Jodi Rell said Wednesday in endorsing a Congressional bill aimed at the Veterans Administration (VA).

Clock’s Ticking; Charter Oak, HUSKY Need More Docs

It’s been three weeks since the state started enrolling people in Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s affordable, no frills Charter Oak Health Plan. The state-subsidized insurance is available to any Connecticut adult, regardless of their pre-existing medical conditions. Since that day, June 30, Rell has held three press conferences to tout plan, which she describes as the first of its kind health insurance plan in the nation for uninsured adults. However, thealth care advocates, along with at least one lawmaker, are less than impressed with the number of doctors and hospitals—just St. Raphael’s in New Haven so far—that have agreed to participate. (Updated: 1:35 p.m.) Our state government healthcare advocate , Kevin Lembo—the guy who fights against insurance companies on behalf of citizens cheated out of coverage—boarded a train for a rendezvous in U.S. Congress. His mission: To convince the federal government to stop insurance companies from waiting until someone gets really sick, then finding an old excuse to drop their coverage.
