Police reported two violent clashes outside downtown clubs this weekend.
Here’s what they said happened:
Around 2 a.m. Sunday Center Street Lounge was closing. A brawl erupted out on Orange Street among departing patrons. Gunfire broke out. A 26 year-old New Haven man was shot in the stomach and died of his injuries. A 25 year-old man from Stamford was shot in the leg and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers responded to brawl inside Hammer Jak’s bar at 201 Crown St. at 1:22 a.m. Saturday. They found three people injured during the fight. Two New Haven men, ages 21 and 20, were stabbed, as was a 20 year-old man from New Rochelle. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
That wasn’t the end of it: While offers “were continuing their investigation into the incident, a fight broke out at Yale-New Haven Hospital.” A 19 year-old New Haven man was stabbed in the shoulder. The same man “began to walk out of the ER, when he assaulted” a 25 year-old New Rochelle man “in front of the officers on scene.” Neither man cooperated with the cops. Both were charged with breach of peace.
