At a special meeting of the Board of Education Thursday night, Superintendent Reggie Mayo announced the appointment of three new principals to New Haven schools.
That news was announced in a Friday press release from the Board of Ed.
Mayo named new principals at Worthington Hooker School, Metropolitan Business Academy, and Wexler/Grant Community School. He also announced the new supervisor of psychological services for the district.
Sheryl Hershonik, a former facilitator at High School in the Community, will be the principal at Worthington Hooker. According to the release, Hershonik has been employed in the New Haven school system since 1977. She was a math teacher at Roberto Clemente Middle School before moving to High School in the Community in 1995. She was elected facilitator there in 2002.
Judith Puglisi, who has been in the school system since 1989, will be the new principal at Metropolitan Business Academy. According to the release, she began her career as a special education teacher at Wilbur Cross High School. She became assistant principal there in 2005.
Sabrina Breland (pictured), a former principal at Urban Youth, will be the new principal at Wexler/Grant. According to the release, she is a graduate of Wilbur Cross and started teaching in New Haven in 1992 as a special education teacher at Isadore Wexler School. She served as assistant principal at Wexler/Grant and Hill Regional Career High School before becoming principal at Urban Youth in 2009.
Milivia Concas will be the new supervisor of psychological services for the school district. She will supervise 28 psychologists as well as parts of the special education program. Concas began as a bilingual teacher in New Haven public schools in 1987. She became a bilingual school psychologist in 1995.
