Anti-Chief Movement Fizzles

After an hour-and-a-half-long meeting Wednesday night, the police union opted not to move forward with a vote of no confidence on its chief.

Citing unhappiness with a number of new work rules, union president Sgt. Louis Cavaliere announced two weeks ago that the union was moving toward scheduling a vote of no confidence in Chief Frank Limon. The announcement came just five months after Limon moved here from Chicago to take over the department.

About 100 cops gathered Wednesday evening for their monthly, union meeting at the Marchegian Club. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Malloy stopped by to talk with the rank-and-file. The meeting was closed to the press.

As Cavaliere predicted, around 8:40 p.m., someone at the meeting put forward a motion to schedule a no-confidence vote. At 9 p.m., the motion was withdrawn. Also under discussion was a challenge to the union’s leadership.

Gubernatorial candidate Dan Malloy fit a stop at the meeting into his schedule too.
