City Hall has tapped Susan Bysiewicz’s spokesman to serve as liaison between the mayor’s office and the city’s legislative branch.
Adam Joseph, 27, starts his new job as legislative liaison to Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. on Dec. 1. He’ll earn $68,500 in the position, which is appointed.
It won’t be the first time Joseph has worked for his new boss: Joseph came to New Haven in June 2005 to work on DeStefano’s gubernatorial campaign. He served as the deputy finance director.
Before that, he had spent a year as press secretary and community liaison for New York State Sen. Jeff Klein of the Bronx. He graduated from James Madison University in Virginia in 2004.
In May 2007, after DeStefano lost the governor’s race, Joseph moved to a post in Hartford as deputy communications director for Bysiewicz, the secretary of the state.
In his new job, he’ll be responsible for keeping up good relations between the city’s legislative and executive branch. That means building personal relationships with aldermen and trying to get the mayor’s agenda approved by the board.
He said he’s looking forward to working with the Board of Aldermen. “You’ve got 30 elected officials who work hard and care for the community,” he said.
“I’m excited to be back in the city,” added Joseph, who lives in Hamden.
The liaison post was left vacant by Paul Nuñez, Jr., who is going to the state Capitol to work for the new speaker of the house, Rep. Chris Donovan.
