A driver ran his SUV into a cop’s leg while trying to escape early Saturday morning, according to mayoral spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga.
The incident occurred at closing time at Humphrey’s East restaurant.
Around 2 a.m., cops stationed in the area heard gunshots fired nearby. The gunmen fled in cars, with the cops pursuing them. Two cops caught up on foot with the driver of an SUV a block away. The driver struck Officer David Acosta with the SUV, according to Mayorga.
The cops fired at the vehicle, Mayorga said; the driver got away. The incident was still under investigation Sunday.
Acosta was treated at the hospital for minor knee injuries and released later Saturday morning, Mayorga said.
