After a “shoving match” led to intervention by police, a West Rock alderman and his wife appealed for privacy and understanding.
Police arrived at the West Hills home of Tosha and Alderman Darnell Goldson around 1:45 a.m. Saturday on a report of a “domestic incident,” said mayoral spokesman Adam Joseph.
“An altercation occurred, both accusing the other of starting it,” Joseph said. “Both had minor scratch marks.” He said Darnell Goldson had a scratch on the left side of his chest, Tosha Goldson “redness” and “swelling to right side of head.” Both declined medical help.
Police charged each of them with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.
The Goldsons issued a joint statement Sunday:
“On the night of the argument, we had returned to New Haven from a family vacation in Orlando, and after 30 hours on the road were a little stressed. Unfortunately, a minor argument took on more significance than it deserved, and we ended up in a shouting and shoving match that was eventually overblown. We have been a couple for over 13 years, 10 of those married, and still have immeasurably love for each other. We ask during this time that we be regarded the privacy that any normal couple would have when trying to work out personal issues, and for our friends to keep us in their prayers.”
