The labor-affiliated New Haven Rising organization staged a demonstration outside Yale-New Haven Hospital Saturday calling on it to hire more New Haveners to help solve a “jobs crisis.”
The group claimed in a release that 134 participants were arrested when they sat in the street in an act of disobedience; and that the mayor addressed the march. The group did not alert the press to observe the event. The hospital issued a statement that it hired more than 600 New Haveners last year, and more than employs 3,000 overall, with good pay and benefits.
Meanwhile, a coalition of labor and citizen-action groups has released a report criticizing a pending takeover of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, and a possible looming takeover of Milford Hospital, by Yale-New Haven. Click here to read it.
