Plans to reopen a long defunct visitor information center on Long Wharf Drive got a boost from the Board of Alders.
Monday night, the alders approved a lease agreement between the city and Snack Shack LLC to sell prepared foods at the a kiosk by the harbor once it reopens. The Snack Shack LLC is owned by the same folks who own Brazi’s Restaurant.
Right off Interstate 95’s Exit 46, the information center is a natural stopping off point for drivers who might need a little break and want to know what there is to do and see in New Haven, or whose phones have died and can’t find that information with a Google search. Visitors will not only be able to get information about New Haven area attractions and hotels, but buy New Haven branded items and get something to eat.
The three-year lease calls for the Snack Shack to pay $1 a month during year one. During the following year, the leasee would pay a quarterly rent based on gross receipts of sales. (This previous story by New Haven Register’s Mary O’Leary has more details about the plan. )
