Man Tased, Arrested On Pot Charges

Police said they used a taser to subdue a violent man, then found six bags of marijuana on him.

It was one of two drug arrests on Thursday evening. Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

Officers in the Tactical Narcotics Unit (TNU) got a tip at 7:30 p.m that a known drug dealer was going to deliver a bundle of marijuana” to an area on Weybosset Street. Cops set up at different locations around the location, ready to apprehend the 24-year-old man.

About half an hour later, a Honda Civic matching the provided description pulled up. The suspect got out, spotted the police, and ran into an apartment building. He fought with police, who used a taser on him due to his violent behavior.” He had $170 and six bags of marijuana on him. Police charged him with six offenses, including assaulting a police officer and intent to sell drugs near a school.

Two hours earlier, the TNU executed a search and seizure warrant at a house on Dewitt Street. The investigation was the result of a tip that marijuana was being sold there, which was confirmed by detectives.

The search yielded $1590, 23 grams of pot, two handguns, packaging material, and a scale. Cops arrested an 18-year-old man and charged him with five offenses. One of the handguns was found to belong to the man’s brother, the other belonged to his father, who could not produce a permit for it. Police said they will be applying for an arrest warrant for the brother, on drug and weapons charges.
