Money To Lift Sinking Homes

After years of flooding and structural damage to their houses, homeowners in Westville were cast a lifeline on Thursday.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced Thursday $2 million in bonding will be set aside for the repair of damaged homes in the Beverly Hills section of Westville. Houses there have been slowly sinking for years. The problem has cracked foundations, separated porches from houses, and caused flooding.

The money is expected to be approved at the Dec. 10 state Bond Commission meeting.

The development is a victory for New Haven State Rep. Pat Dillon (pictured above), who, along with State Sen. Toni Harp, has been working to secure state money to help afflicted homeowners.

The residents of Westville and the legislators who represent them never gave up in their effort to address this problem,” Governor Rell said in a press release. That day of resolution is here, and I am proud to approve these funds to assist these homeowners with their homes.”

Our constituents have invested so much in their homes and their neighborhoods,” Dillon said in the release. This assistance will help people save their homes.”
