Lisa Kereszi took part in Saturday’s clean-up in Quarry Park organized by Fair Haven Heights Alderman Alex Rhodeen. She reports: “It was a success: 20 people showed up, and we hauled out a whole bunch of large items that were illegally dumped there; some things had been there for decades. Several mattresses, a heavy car axle, a Lexus steering column, a kid’s pool and pump, a whole swingset with slide, plastic chairs, 2 propane tanks, old kiddie pedal car, old tricycles, a sled…. LCI pitched in, and the parks department will pick up everything from Russell Street.”

It is great to see an alderman doing this kind of activies specialy now "election time" what a better way to send the massage of working togheter. Thank you to all the people "20 showed up"

It is truly a wonderful thing that Alderman Alex Rhodeen does. Every year he organizes a clean-up in some part of Fair Haven followed by a picnic.
In the past, the Public Works Dept. had specific days scheduled for bulk trash pick-up. Now it is necessary to schedule an appointment with them. Sometimes, it requires months of waiting. Perhaps it would help if the city went back to scheduling specific days. While I don't think it will totally solve the problem of people dumping their bulk trash wherever they please, I think it may help in lessening this problem.
This is a great story. I'm glad to hear that the illegally dumped junk has been cleaned out of the park. I hope that new junk doesn't appear. Quarry Park is a beautiful park.
