Ten hours after a woman reported being robbed of her sneakers on Poplar Street, cops spotted the suspects’ stolen car, and the chase was on.
Cops caught two alleged muggers and car thieves after a brief car and foot pursuit.
That’s according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery. Here’s what he said happened:
On Monday night at 11:08 p.m., a 19-year-old woman reported being mugged at 466 Poplar St. in Fair Haven. She told cops a masked man got out of a gray 1997 Honda Civic, approached her, and took her wallet and sneakers at gunpoint. She received a minor injury to the face.
The woman gave cops a plate number for the car, which had been reported stolen out of Chester.
At 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, Officer Edward Morrone, who’s assigned to the Auto Theft Task Force, came across the car. After a brief pursuit, two men bailed from the car at the corner of Congress Avenue and White Street in the Hill. Police chased them on foot and caught one at 516 Congress Ave. and the other behind 90 Arch St.
In other police news, according to Avery:
The ShotSpotter system picked up three gunshots near 11 Lilac St. in Newhallville at 11:05 p.m. Monday. A caller reported hearing three shots and seeing a green or black Honda speeding south on Winchester Avenue. Police found ballistic evidence at the scene.
