The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. at 287 Division St.
The victim, who based on preliminary reports is in his 30s or early 40s, told police three men tried to rob him. He resisted. He was then shot “multiple” times in the torso. His condition was described as “serious,” though he was able to talk.

Bike Shop Burglarized
Just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, two guys smashed a window at the Amity Bike Shop at 433 Chapel St. and made off with an orange Masi Speciale road bike. A caller reported seeing two men in black ski masks leaving the scene. One was carrying the bike, then riding it. The other left in a black Ford F‑150.
“We’re just happy the didn’t get more,” said store owner Kurt D’Aniello on Monday. The thieves didn’t even enter the store, he said. “From what I understand, it was a smash and grab type thing.” The Masi, a $1,200 or $1,300 bike, was hanging in the window.
Amity took over the location from the Devil’s Gear bike shop when it moved downtown last year. Devil’s Gear had suffered a number of break-ins at the Chapel Street location. D’Aniello said he beefed up security when he moved in.
He said he might put in more, depending on what happens with the insurance settlement from this incident. That might mean installing a pull-down shutter for the window, or just refraining from hanging bikes there. As soon as burglars enter the store they’ll trigger one of the “tons and tons of alarms in there,” D’Aniello said.
Meanwhile, D’Aniello is taking the burglary in stride. “You can’t get overly upset about something like this.”
