A man fired a shot at a woman dropping off her child at Strong School Tuesday morning, according to Police Chief James Lewis.
Lewis said no one was hurt in the incident on Clinton Avenue, right next to the school.
The Strong School, at 69 Grand Ave., serves grades K‑1.
“Fortunately, we did not have to go into lockdown,” said schools spokeswoman Michelle Wade. “Everyone is OK.”
Lewis said the woman quickly helped cops find the shooter.
“She knew who it was,” Lewis said. He said the woman told the cops who fired the bullet. Officers went to the man’s house on Poplar Street.
The man did not agree to come out at first. Officers, who included members of the department’s SWAT team, cleared everyone else from the building. Then the man came out without incident, Lewis said.
The police had the man in custody and detectives were interviewing him late Tuesday morning, Lewis said. He said the department would be releasing more information soon.
