Cops pulled up at Blake Street after shots were fired. A sawed-off rifle emerged from a man’s pants. A chase and a scuffle ensued.
Police made an arrest, after sustaining minor injuries.
That’s according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery. Here’s what he said happened:
At 6:04 p.m. Thursday, ShotSpotter indicated a single gunshot near a wooded area on Blake Street. Officers Ekrem Halim and Christopher Senior (pictured) arrived to find a man leaving the area. When the tried to stop him, he pulled a sawed-off rifle from his trousers and ran. The cops caught him after a foot chase and a struggle, during which the man and the cops were injured. Cops recovered the rifle and arrested the 31-year-old man. He was charged with gun possession and two counts of assault on a police officer.
In other police news, according to Avery:
A 23-year-old was shot at 201 Farren Ave. at 10:49 p.m. Thursday. He was shot in the right arm and back while sitting in his car. He was treated and released from the hospital.
A man told cops at 12:45 a.m. Friday that he was assaulted and robbed by a group of people at Temple and Elm streets.
At 2:09 a.m., a man told cops he was punched in the face and had his nose broken at Crown and High Streets. His computer and shoulder bag were taken, along with his passport.
