In a quicker-than-expected departure, City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga and her aide announced they are leaving their jobs on Friday.
Mayorga, who joined City Hall in March of 2007, told the Independent in December that she would be leaving in the spring to relocate her family to the Baltimore area.
She recently gave notice that she intends to resign effective Friday, Feb. 4, according to the latest personnel report. Mayorga, who’s 30, makes a salary of $77,102, according to the city budget.
The DeStefano administration hasn’t yet chosen a temporary or permanent replacement, Mayorga said Monday.
Mayorga said she’s leaving sooner than expected because she found a new job — and her new employer needs her now. She said she will become the marketing director for the D.C.-based Latino rights organization, the National Council of La Raza.
Following her out the door is Elyse Lyons (at left in photo with Mayor John DeStefano), the city’s “media program associate” and Mayorga’s right-hand woman. Lyons was hired on March 26; her job is funded through a law enforcement block grant at a salary of $40,000. Lyons also gave notice that she will resign on Friday.
Mayorga said Lyons will take a position with New Haven Promise, a new Yale- and Community Foundation For Greater New Haven-backed college scholarship program for city schoolkids.
