Hilden A. Wright, 61 of Georgetown, SC, died Friday, June 18, 2010 in Conway, SC. Mr. Wright was born August 28, 1948 in Georgetown, SC a son of Marion Wright and Mrs. Arlena Henry Wright. After having graduated from Choppee High School he migrated to New Haven, CT. He served his country in the U.S. Army and later joined the New Haven Police Department. Following 26 years of dedicated service as a detective, he returned to South Carolina. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife: Mrs. Ruth Davis Wright; two sons, Jehmell Wright of New Haven, CT and Terrance Wright of Conway, SC; one daughter, Potassa Davis of Charleston, SC; four sisters, Peggy Drayton of New Haven, CT, Claudia Ford, Evelyn Miller, and Glenda Wright all of Georgetown, SC; two brothers, John Wright of Georgetown, SC, Henry Wright of New Haven, CT and four grandchildren. Visitation will begin TODAY, Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul AME Church in the Plantersville Community, SC. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Marlowe Branch Cemetery in South Conway, SC. Retired Detective Hilden Wright was hired as an officer by the New Haven Police Department on June 7, 1976 and was appointed to the rank of Detective on 1/22/91. Throughout his career, he had been assigned to Patrol, Metro-Unit, Street Crime (Narcotics), Investigative Services and the Chief’s Office. He received a Certificate of Commendation and a Unit Citation for his work in narcotics. Detective Wright retired on 3/18/01.
