The first two buildings of the redeveloped Farnam Courts public housing development on Grand Avenue — remonikered as Mill River Crossing — are now nearly filled up. And the public-housing complex has a new name: “Mill River Crossing.”
The former Farnam Courts public housing development has traded its dilapidated townhouses for high-rise living, a new name, and views of the Q Bridge and East Rock that rival some of the fanciest digs downtown.

Downtown neighbors and city officials don’t disapprove of the prisoner reentry work done by a state parole office that is slated to relocate to Grand Avenue in a few months. They’re just frustrated with the location chosen and the lack of communication between the state and the new site’s neighbors.
Mayor Toni Harp, Economic Development Officer Matthew Nemerson and other city officials gathered Thursday afternoon for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Bender New Haven’s 21,000 square foot showroom at 335 East St. in the Mill River district.

By the end of this summer New Haveners will be able to walk and bike along a short, refurbished trail that runs adjacent to the Mill River, and get a sense of what it may be like to travel from East Rock to Criscuolo Park without needing to get in a car or bus.

Should the city choose artists as a special class of renters needing affordable housing?
Leslie Radcliffe posed that question as the city and an out-of-town developer prepare to transform a former clock factory into 130 apartments for artists.

Hector Diaz was netting healthy-sized blue crabs and even big eels in the Mill River Tuesday afternoon.
Two dozen non-angling environmental and development officials from the city and state, along with Mill River Trail Association devotees, were on hand to admire the catch. They were also there to tell Diaz, through the ceremonies that ensued, that in the months and years ahead his access to the river for fishing and other enjoyments will be a lot easier.
A black bear roamed around the Mill River, East Rock, Fair Haven, and Jocelyn Square Tuesday before cops and state Department of Environmental Protection officers cornered him, tranquilized him, and took him away.
