Two happy little girls received badges and became junior police officers. A couple of moms took applications for the Police Athletic League summer camp, and several said the police gesture was positive yet also made pleas for more programs for young people.

Meanwhile, one longtime activist also said not a single police officer is trusted in Newhallville except the district manager. One young woman called the whole parade of police brass and other officials, after a police-involved shooting, pathetic.”

Probable Assault Crime Cited For Search

State detectives established probable cause for searching for evidence of first-degree assault in a case where a Hamden police officer and a Yale police officer shot at two unarmed people in Newhallville, according to a search warrant application.

The document contains other new details about the explosive incident, including reports of interviews with a man at whom the officer shot, and with a newspaper deliverer who accused the man of attempted robbery.

State police Tuesday afternoon released video from the camera worn by a Hamden police officer as he fired bullets at two unarmed people in a car in New Haven’s Newhaville neighborhood.

It showed the officer firing directly into the passenger window of the car. Meanwhile, the state’s police commissioner revealed that Hamden failed to notify New Haven police that an officer was crossing into town to confront a suspect and that a Yale police officer who also fired his gun did not turn on his body camera.
