The City of New Haven Connecticut will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the Canal Dock Boathouse Project. The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., in the Ground Floor Hearing Room (Room G2) in the Hall of Records, 200 Orange Street, New Haven Connecticut.
In 2007, the Adee Boathouse was demolished by ConnDOT to make way for the new Quinnipiac Bridge/I95 crossing. As mitigation for the loss of this historic resource, the Federal Highway Administration and ConnDOT have provided funding for the construction of a boathouse at Long Wharf incorporating historic architectural elements salvaged from the Adee Boathouse prior to its demolition. The new boathouse will allow for the preservation of architecturally significant elements of the boathouse, and will also provide a central facility in New Haven for water-dependent uses.
The proposed project is envisioned to consist of a 31,000 square foot community boathouse constructed on a 55,000 square foot pile-supported concrete platform. The project will include floating docks to support various activities such as fixed seat rowing, kayaking, sailing and transient boating.
Work is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2011 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
Plans will be available for public review. City of New Haven representatives and members of the design team will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the New Haven City Plan Department, 5th floor 165 Church Street, New Haven, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact the City Plan Department at (203) 946‑2964.
All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project.
