For the first time in 15 months, musicians took the stage at Toad’s Place — with the promise of more tunes to come, thanks to a federal bailout slowly making its way to shuttered venues across the country.
Plans for a new 80,000 square-foot brewery, tap room, and event space for a vacant former-industrial lot on River Street are moving ahead, as the city prepares to welcome “The Beatles of Craft Brewing” to Fair Haven.

A top state economic development official and local zoning board member is also a city landlord on the move — actively buying, renovating, managing, and selling rental properties in New Haven’s red-hot housing market.
New England Brewing Company, outgrowing its space in Woodbridge, is negotiating to move to Fair Haven and set up production and taproom and event facilities with a scenic view of the Quinnipiac River.
Down River Street, the up-and-coming media production company Jaigantic Studios is also in negotiations to buy city land to set up headquarters.
The money’s still flowing to fuel New Haven’s building boom — but builders are scrambling to meet soaring lumber prices and find materials disappearing in a backed-up international supply chain.

A local biotech company has committed to occupying 160,000 square feet on three of the 10 floors under construction at a tower planned to rise at 101 College St. as part of the Downtown Crossing project restitching the center city with the Hill.
A Queens builder has purchased the Sports Haven complex on Long Wharf for $6 million — and the betting money is on a long-term transformation of the oil drum-shaped gambling mecca and its asphalt sea of surface parking.
