Cherry blossoms were in full splendor in time for Sunday’s fest.

Both the old and the new Wooster Square were on display at this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival, where octogenarian ladies from the Amalfi Coast chatted with old friends they hadn’t seen in years, couples danced to salsa music, women in saris made paper flowers, and families lined up for La Carreta’s tacos.

Lights, Cameras ... Action! Eyed For Parks

New Haven basketball players can look forward to smoother surfaces and clearer three-point lines at courts throughout the city. Wooster Square will be better lit at night. And more security cameras may pop up in city parks.

Snow, Mud, No Match For Determined Cyclo-Cross Racers

Several women racers are all mud and smiles.

Specks and spatters of mud became badges of honor for the nearly 300 Cyclo-cross (CX) racers who competed in the in the finale of the Connecticut series of cyclo-cross races, Elm City CX, held Sunday in New Haven’s Edgewood Park for the benefit of the Parks and Recreation department.

The Benches Are Back

Without fanfare, the attractive benches have returned to Wooster Square Park, restored, plaqued, spiffy, and bolted into place.

They are there gleaming in the sunlight as if waiting for the hundreds of visitors expected at the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival on April 24 to have comfortable places to rest and take in the history and beauty of one of the city’s most notable settings.
