Carjackers Target 74-Year-Old

A pair of men stole a 74-year-old Shop Rite employee’s car while he was sitting in it early Tuesday.

The crime occurred around 6 a.m. in the parking lot of the 2100 Dixwell Ave. Shop Rite, according to Hamden police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

The 74-year-old employee was inside the car, preparing to report to work, when a man wearing a black skull cap,” mask and red-shirt approached and then ordered him out of his vehicle,” Smith stated in a release. An accomplice appeared. The pair of thieves entered the vehicle, then drove away southbound on Dixwell Avenue.

Shortly thereafter, New Haven Police advised Hamden Police that the stolen vehicle had crashed in the area of Roydon Road and Goffe Terrace. The occupants fled on foot,” Smith reported.

Hamden detectives are investigating the incident.
