Alleged Shooter, Burglar Arrested

A 44 year-old man faces numerous burglary and assault-related charges after allegedly breaking into a Park Road home an assaulting the homeowner.

The incident occurred Saturday.

Hamden cops received a call at around 4:15 p.m. about a fight in progress” at the residence, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers said the man forced his way inside the house, then assaulted the homeowner, who had confronted him and asked him to leave.

The man did leave, then damaged another resident’s motor vehicle,” according to Smith. The vehicle owner, too, confronted the man. He, too, was assaulted, according to Smith.

The suspect then attempted to forcibly enter two other homes” before Officers Robert O’Neill and Kyle Sampognaro found him around State and Armstrong streets and arrested him.

In other police news:

Police found a 50-year-old man slumped over the wheel” of a car parked on the 2300 block of Dixwell Avenue Friday at around 7 p.m.

Officer Gabriel Garcia and Officer Darryl Cargill promptly forced entry inside of the vehicle and rendered medical assistance. Officer Cargill successfully administered his department issued Narcan. Hamden Fire Rescue arrived and continued to provide medical attention.The 50 year-old, who was alert and responsive, was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for medical treatment,” Capt. Smith wrote in a release.

In New Haven, police arrested a 41-year-old man Saturday in connection with a shooting that had occurred earlier that day.

The shooting occurred during a fight at a residence on Dixwell Avenue near Thompson Street, where officers responding to a call found a victim with a graze gunshot wound to the thigh and lacerations to the head,” according to police spokesman Capt. Anthony Duff. The assailant had hit the man in the head with a handgun and shot at him. (The victim has since been discharged from the hospital.)

Later Saturday afternoon, patrol Officer Eduardo Leonardo spotted the suspect on Dixwell Avenue and detained him. He was to be arraigned Monday morning on assault, firearms, and drug charges. (He had a small amount of a controlled substance” on him when detained, according to Duff.)
