Haven Street Fire Displaces 8

A fire Tuesday afternoon heavily damaged the upper floors of a two-family Fair Haven home and displaced eight people.

The fire department got the call at 2:17 p.m. and arrived in under two minutes at the scene at 79 Haven St., according to Assistant Chief Mark Vendetto.

Firefighters came upon a building with heavy fire extending from a rear porch to the third-floor attic.

They extinguished the one-alarm fire in about 20 minutes.

Seven adults and one child escaped from the building without injury, Vendetto said. The Red Cross was on scene to assist them with temporary lodging. No firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to city records, Archana Chugani of East Haven bought the property in 1984.
