Ben, a New Haven high-schooler foraging with two friends amid the throwaways of Yalies leaving campus Wednesday, hit gold. “I got a video game!” he reported, beaming. “DDR. Max.”
His friend, Claire Norton, was looking for a mother’s day gift. She found a bag that just might do the trick. “I hope she likes it,” she said.
Daniel Moore came away with a Chinese print he liked. He also found a box of cookies. The friends helped themselves. Refereshments for prized shoppers, just like on Fifth Avenue.
If they made it a few blocks over to Tower Parkway, the shoppers would have found this foosball set in a Dumpster by another dorm.
After townies went through the best pickings, mounds and mounds of the rest of the abandoned trash remained for the maintenance crews. It was all a warm-up for next week’s graduation, when seniors leave four years worth of belonging for scavengers in one of New Haven’s spring rituals.
