Caroline Wozniacki, who’s ranked number one in the world, will return to New Haven this summer to join a revamped version of city’s annual tennis tournament.
Wozniacki won the city’s tournament the past three years, when it was called the Pilot Pen. The 20-year old Dane will return in August to play in the tournament, now called the New Haven Open at Yale presented by First Niagara, announced tournament Director Anne Worcester.
The tournament is returning to its roots as a women-only event this year, dropping the men’s component. That was one major change that took place to enable the tournament to survive without Pilot Pen as its sponsor.
The tournament takes place Aug. 18 – 27 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
