Alfred J. Onorato, 81, of New Haven, husband of June Abate Onorato passed away on Dec. 10, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Alfred was born in Bridgeport on September 30, 1939, son of the late Alfred C. Onorato and Catherine Demirjian Onorato. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Onorato Schweitzer of Avon and his much-loved grandchildren Dylan and Alexa Schweitzer. He is also survived by his sister Marion (Gordon) Pinkham, his aunt Mabel Demirjian and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred was a 1962 graduate of High Point University and a graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law.

He was an attorney in New Haven for 55 years. He was a public defender and later served as a prosecutor for the 6th Circuit Court. He served as an assistant corporation counsel for the City of New Haven under former Mayor Biagio DiLieto. He served in the State Legislature from 1979 – 1985 where he represented the 97th District. He was a member of the Judiciary Committee from 1979 – 1985 and was Chairman of the Banks Committee from 1983 – 1985. He was Ward Chairman of the 13th Ward for 10 years and a member of the State Democratic Committee for 10 years.

Family and friends may walk through with masks for visiting hours on MONDAY from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80) East Haven. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home TUESDAY morning at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in St. Bernadette Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery located in Bridgeport.
