Audrey Alston, 67

Audrey Alston, beloved mother and grandmother, devoted daughter and adored sister was born on November 28, 1952, and left us suddenly on April 17, 2020.

Audrey was born to John and Claytea Alston in Littleton, North Carolina. Audrey lived all her life in New Haven, where she attended Wilbur Cross High School. Audrey was an activist at heart and taught her sisters, brothers, and other family members to be socially conscious and culturally aware. Audrey attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. There, Audrey fed her love of African-American culture and at the same time became a lasting fan of the Morgan Bears. Homecoming was her favorite event and she attended it regularly.

Audrey previously worked for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and later was a well-respected employee in the Human Resources Department of Yale New Haven Hospital. More than anything Audrey was a loving mother of her only child, and a doting grandmother. She spent hours watching football games with her son, and reading, talking and playing games with her grandson. Audrey was also a devoted daughter. For years she shared a home with and cared for her mother who predeceased her by only 12 days. Audrey was also predeceased by her father John in 2004.

Audrey was dedicated to the care of her family, but she also enjoyed life. She loved music, especially oldies and particularly like attending concerts with her friend and longtime companion, Ron. She loved sharing laughs and stories with her brother John, her daughter-in-law Erica, and her nieces and nephews. She was a reliable, fun and lively ally to her sisters Sherri and Carolyn. She enjoyed a good dinner and drinks with her cousins and friends.

Audrey leaves to mourn her a son Ashon Tay (Erica) Alston, and two grandchildren, Amare and Tiara Alston; three siblings Carolyn, John (Debbie), and Sherri Alston; two nephews Lamar (Monet) and Terrance (Shanita) Alston; two nieces Stacey and Karey Alston; a grandnephew Lamar Alston Jr.; three grandnieces Alonna, Ashley and Amber Alston; a long time friend and companion Ron Cavaness, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Words cannot express how much we will miss our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

A calling hour will take place Thursday, April 23, 2020 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. To leave a message of comfort for the Alston family, please visit, www.hkhfuneralservices.com
