Bryant Barry Washington, 68, passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Saturday, April 16, 2022. He was born September 23, 1953 to the late Melvin Washington and Geneva Geiger Washington.
Bryant is the husband of Georgetta Brown-Washington. He attended Wilbur Cross High School. From high school, he was employed at the New Haven Post Office, Coop, and Yale University for over 30 years until his retirement. Bryant loved his family and loved his nieces and nephews who affectionally called him Uncle ”B”. At family gatherings, he was famous for telling stories, making people laugh, and singing. He was well-known through New Haven spreading love and making friends. He’s also known for writing love songs and gospel songs, expressing the love he had for his family and God through his words of song.
Bryant loved to sing! Some of his favorite groups were The Whispers, The Temptations, Blue Magic, and The Dramatics. If you ever heard him sing, he sounded just like the lead singer of Blue Magic.
Bryant leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Georgetta Brown; (5) children, Bryant Ebony Washington (Erika), Tishan Washington (Taheerah), Porsha Brown, Tori Brown, and Qahteesha Brown of New Haven; (2) brothers, Melvin Washington of New York and Mark Washington of New Britain, CT; (2) sisters, Elder Diane Washington Holmes of Hamden, CT and Renee Washington of New Haven, CT; (22) grandchildren, Bryant, Jr., Jalynn, Ethan, Ani, Tayvon, Tishan, Jr., Tyquan, Tishay, Trayvon, Tyree, Teonna, Tishan, Taijha, Tajuan, Tisheera, Tia, Jaterra, Mekhi, A‑Jay, ZaMiyah, and Nova; (5) great-grands, Jayce, Nyla, Faith, Ayla, and Amaya; best friends, June, Bennie, Bruce, and Richard of 57 years; (2) aunts; over (50) niece and nephews; and a very large host of cousins and friends.
Beside his parents, Bryant was predeceased by his brothers, Phillip Washington and Kenneth Washington; mother-in-law, Hattie Brown; grandson, Taijhon Washington; nephew, Jerome W. Brown; and his “Posses”- best friends, Charles Huckabee, Bobby Cummings, Pat Parks, and Gregory Daniel.
A celebration of life will take place Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthews U.F.W. Baptist Church, 400 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511.
