Charles Henry Brooks, 76, of New Haven, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
He was born on March 6, 1947, in Derby, CT, to the late Bishop George and Nellie Grayson Brooks.
Charles was educated in the New Haven Public Schools, graduating from Wilbur Cross High School in 1965. After graduating, he joined the United States Air Force where he honorably served in the Vietnam War.
He was employed by the City of New Haven Department of Parks and Recreation. He recently retired after 25 years of dedicated and faithful service. One of the greatest joys of his career was turning on the lights for the Festival of Lights at Lighthouse Point Park during the Christmas holiday season.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his two brothers, George D. Brooks and Walter Brooks; two sisters, Anna “Libby” Bowers and Esther Brooks; brothers-in-law, Roger Bowers and Kenneth Oliver, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Virginia Brooks. He has left to carry on his memory, two brothers, Suffragan Bishop Richard Brooks and Bishop Theodore (Lillie) Brooks; two sisters, Mary Louise Harris-Harrell and Carol Oliver; sisters-in-law, Helen Brooks and Andrea Jackson-Brooks; very close cousin, Mary Morris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also deeply missed by his friends and colleagues.
A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 7:00 PM at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St, New Haven, CT. Friends may call Thursday at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Interment will be Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Services by Howard K.
