Pastor Charles L. Lewis, 67 of New Haven, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Charles was born on August 30, 1952, to the late Henry Lewis Jr. and Thelma Antrum Lewis in Derby.
Charles moved from Ansonia to New Haven in 1955 following the flood. He attended Winchester Elementary School, Sheridan Middle School, Wilbur Cross High School for three years and graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1969. In 2003, Charles graduated from Gateway Community College with his Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Charles joined the Marine Corps. in January 1972 and was discharged in January 1974.
In the late ‘70s Charles joined Bible Gospel Center under the late Pastor John A. Good, and was a member there until being ordained as a minister in November 1990 and starting Covenant Christian Center. In 1994, Charles and his wife Barbara founded Covenant Christian Academy, which was open until 2007.
Charles leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 40 years, Barbara Lewis; daughters, LaVona Edwards (Larry) and Christian Lewis; sons, Charles Lewis, II and Marcus Lewis; sister, Ernestine Lewis; brothers, Harvey (Juanita) Lewis and James Lewis; four grandchildren, Larry Edwards Jr., Donnell Edwards, Ajia Lewis, and Amir Lewis; two goddaughters, Stacey Perno and Nathalie Hall; as well as a host of relatives and friends. Charles was predeceased by his parents Henry Lewis Jr. and Thelma Antrum Lewis.
