Clara Bell Armstead, 98, formerly of New Haven, passed away Jan. 8, 2019.
She was born in Caroline County, Va. to the late John and Lena Fortune on Oct. 13, 1920.
Clara leaves to cherish her memory, loving daughter, Gladys Marie Richardson; sister, Virginia Hampton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Boyd Armstead; brothers, Harry Fortune and John Henry Fortune; and sisters, Mary Fortune, Roberta Dudley, Eva McNair, Annie Maude Barksdale, and Nora Byrd.
A celebration of her life will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cathedral of Higher Praise, 155 Grand Ave, New Haven 06513. Friends may call Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Services by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511.
