Daniel Kuarreng Akoi, 59, died suddenly at home in New Haven on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. He was born January 1, 1963 in Maar, Jonglei State, in South Sudan.
Daniel was trained as a lawyer and worked in Sudan’s government for five years before coming to the United States. During that time, he helped many South Sudanese people who were being prosecuted by the government. In 2003, he immigrated with his wife Agnes Chol to Aurora, Illinois, where they lived for six years and where he worked for Dart Container Corporation.
After the peace agreement was signed between South Sudan and the Sudanese government in 2005, Daniel returned in 2008 to South Sudan where he worked with the South Sudanese government as an Attorney General in Juba, the new Capitol, and later in Bortown, Jonglei State, from 2012 to 2017. On April, 2017, he returned to the United States to live in New Haven and was recently employed by LAZ Parking.
Daniel enjoyed reading, soccer, and watching National Geographic programs and Kung-Fu on television.
Daniel leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother, Abuol Ajou; wife, Agnes Chol; brothers, Akoi, Sr., Akoi, Jr., and Manyok; sisters, Ajah, Chaar, Nyanwut, Ahou, Duom, Ayen, and Adau; children, Kuarreng, Adau and Akoi; nephew, John Amol of New Haven; and a dear friend, Erada David. He is survived by many friends, family members, relatives, for whom he cared deeply — newer friends and those with whom he had long-standing relationships.
