Dorothy Clearene Clemon, 81 of New Haven, entered into eternal rest at Yale New Haven Hospital on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
She was born on August 30, 1938 in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Cleary and Leila Mae Clemon.
Dorothy received her education in the New Haven Public School system and earned endorsements in Blueprinting and Machinery from technical schools.
She exhibited a strong work ethic and enjoyed caring for others. She was employed at Yale and the VA Hospital before retiring as a private healthcare aide for many years. Dorothy was a member of Faith Revival Temple Church. She was known for saying “Praise the Lord” every time she answered the phone. “You’re going to bust hell wide open” was another favorite saying of hers.
Dorothy was affectionately called “Dottie” and “Me-Ma”. She was the family matriarch and loved being around her family. Among the many things she was passionate about, Dorothy loved reading the Bible and recited scriptures often. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, sewing, eating fried chicken, collecting newspapers, and talking on the phone. Dorothy was an avid lover of hats.
Dorothy is survived by a loving family including her children Delores Robinson of New Haven, CT; Anthony Clemon of New Haven, CT; and Tyrone Palmer (Bernadette) of Bridgeport, CT; 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish her memory and reflect upon her legacy. She was predeceased by her daughter Maetroyed Clemon-Jacobs; granddaughter Temara Clemon; and close cousin, more like a sister, Mildred Patterson-Seawright.
A celebration of life will take place Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
