Helen “Hun” Thomas Council of New Haven departed her life peacefully in her home, January 24, 2020.
She was born October 06, 1933, in New Haven to the late Bessie and Williams Thomas.
She loved to have family gathering and cook home Southern meals. She enjoyed having Sunday dinner at her house which became family tradition. Helen also loved to play cards, spades, to be exact, along with Big Whist, Pokeno, bingo, and crossword puzzles. Any time she can go to the casino she enjoyed that as well. She enjoyed her quality time spent with her daughter and grandchildren; going shopping and out to eat. Helen loved her seafood! She loved to be around her family.
Helen was a longterm resident of Brookside community in New Haven. She was also a retired dietitian at the VA Hospital. Helen was a terrific wife and parent/grandparent, always giving great advice when needed. She was a very calm, strong, straight forward, down to earth, independent, funny lady, who loved her family, and life itself.
She was the wife of the late Leonard Council, and mother of Hope Thomas (Tommie), Charles Thomas, Jr. (Angela). She had one granddaughter Mahogany Tillman (Tramont), one grandson Charonn Thomas, and one great grandson Tramont Murray Jr. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
This is truly a celebration of life for Helen; as she returns home to her parents and husband. She was predeceased by Charles Thomas, Sr. her sisters, Mary Heath, Cora Lee Holland, Ruthie White, and brothers, William Thomas Jr, and Larry Thomas.
A celebration of her life will take place Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 9:30 AM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Saturday at the funeral home from 8:30 – 9:30 AM. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven.
