Magnolia Gibson, 80, departed this life peacefully on April 2, 2018, at Yale-New Haven Hospital
She was born on Dec. 20, 1937, in Dyersburg, Tenn. to the late Sidney Bell Light and Fannie Mae Woods. She was predeceased by her husband Hosie Amos Gibson and her sons Hosea “Bubba” Gibson Jr. and Terry Light, three daughters Sharon Light, Gloria, and Vanessa Gibson, a brother, S.L. “Buddy” Light, and a sister, Ora Lee Abdullah.
Magnolia enjoyed spending time with family and was a loving, caring mother and grandmother. Magnolia attended First Pentecostal Church of Christ in New Haven and loved the Lord. Magnolia is survived by daughters, Victoria Borges (and husband, Tony,) Linette Gibson, Cassandra Ashe (and husband, Jonathan); sons, Giovanni Gibson and Gerald Gibson; a brother, Timothy Light; grandchildren: Tatianna, Xavier, Magnolia, Darryl, Jr. and Jordan, and a host of other dear relatives and friends.
A celebration of Magnolia’s life and legacy will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery. The online guestbook is available at curvinkcouncil.com.
