Marquis Calvin Winfrey came into this world on a mild winter Tuesday, December 5, 1989 to Bernard C. Winfrey Sr. and Dawn Poindexter in New Haven. Marquis graced his parents and siblings with his quick-witted infectious personality.
Marquis was educated in the Hamden school system, followed by studies at Housatonic Community College.
Marquis leave to cherish his memory, mother Dawn (Lasalle) Poindexter-Johnson of Hamden; daughter, Latavia Lowe; five amazing sons, Malachi Sessions of Branford, Marquis C. Winfrey Jr., Jayquis Winfrey, Jeremiah and Jacob White all of New Haven; three sisters, Nateysha Poindexter of New Haven, Tamara Thomas of North Carolina, and Mya Kimbro of Massachusetts; step-sister, Lashalle Johnson of Washington D.C.; seven brothers, Frederick Payne Jr. of New Haven, Andrew Kimbro of Massachusetts, Britt Martin of Hamden, Wilbur House, lll of Georgia, Bernard and Maurice Byrd of New Haven, and Quran Winfrey of Hamden; step-brother, Lasalle Johnson Jr.; grandmother, Bettie Little; great-grandmother, Addie Green both of New Haven; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marquis was predeceased by his father, Bernard Winfrey; maternal grandparents, Lottie Poindexter and Charles Clark; and paternal grandfather, MacArthur Winfrey.
A walk-thru visitation will take place Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 9:00 – 11:00 Am at The New Trinity Temple C.O.G.I.C., 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511. Celebration of life will be private.
