Morris D. Moreland, 73

Morris D. Moreland, age 73, of New Haven, Connecticut peacefully passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family and close friends on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. 

Morris was born on September 20, 1949 in New Haven, Connecticut to late Calvin Moreland and the late Gladys Sweeney. He was predeceased by his sister Carolyn Lawhorn.

Morris graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1967. Morris continued his education by attending Kittrell Jr. College, Kittrell, North Carolina and Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Morris worked for Community Action Agency for 26 years and then moved onto Project M.O.R.E. Inc. as Vice President of Administration & Social Services Programs. Morris was an active Mason. He was a founding member of the King Solomon Lodge #23 Prince Hall New Haven, Connecticut and served as a Past Master. Also, he was an active member of the Ashanti Warriors of Connecticut.

While living in New Haven, Morris met his lovely wife June VanBruen whom he married in 1986. Out of their union they were blessed with their son Marcus. Morris was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Uncle. He was affectionately known as Dad, Mo, Big Mo, Pop-Pop and Grandad.

Morris leaves to cherish in his memory, his lovely wife, June VanBruen-Moreland; son, Marcus D. Moreland; granddaughters, Nyhia and Marianna Moreland of New Haven, CT; and a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.
