Ola Ray Tyson, 86

Ola Ray Tyson, 86, of New Haven, passed away July 27, 2018.

He was born in Greenville, N.C. on Sept. 2, 1931, to the late Herman and Anna Jenkins Tyson. He received his primary education in Greenville before moving to Connecticut in 1957. He worked at National Gypsum Construction and Masonry and other part-time jobs until his retirement.

Ola was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching any team Lebron James played for with the NBA. He also enjoyed watching the NFL’s Washington Redskins, and MLB’s Boston Red Sox. In his spare time, he liked watching movies on TMC, with his favorite being To Kill a Mocking Bird.” His favorite musical artists include Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, and Marvin Gaye.

Ola leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Willette Chambers Tyson; son, Ola Ray Nelson; daughters, Kim (Calvin) Riley, Darlene Tyson, Carlene Tyson, Sonya Flegler, and Cathy Sykes; sisters, Rose Stanton, Jessica (David) Gray, and Lilis Flowers; grandchildren, Nicolas, Dominique, Calvin, Jr. (CJ), Tiarra, and NiRay; sisters-in-law, Margie Tyson and Evelyn Tyson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Herman Tyson and Charles Tyson.

A celebration of his life will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends
