Percess Joyce Hendricks, “P,” “Mummy” was born on April 15, 1952, in Mitchell Town, Clarendon, Jamaica, WI. She was a lovely twin girl from proud parents, the late Clifford George and Mildred Elizabeth Medina Smith Hendricks. Percess lost her twin sister, Monica “Merle” 10 years ago.
Growing up “P” was an exceptional girl who loved make-up and beautiful clothing. Her spirit was fun-loving, kind, witty, bright, and ambitious. “P” enjoyed making friends, shopping, reading, and teaching others.
Teaching was a natural skill for Percess. As she transitioned to young adulthood, she pursued a career in the academic world. A graduate from STC, Shortwood Teachers College, Kingston, Jamaica, WI, she joined the alumni group of teaching excellence in 1973. In 1978, Percess received her certificate of Education from the University of London, UCC, Mandeville. She was a successful educator throughout her career. Parents, students, family members, friends, co-workers, people in general loved her because of the positive contribution she made to their lives. Her love for children showcased her warm and generous personality.
‘’P” was a hard worker. She was very private and independent as she worked hard for her success. “P” thrived in assisting others, family, and strangers. The task never mattered, whether mentally or physically. Failure was not a part of her repertoire.
In 1974, she met and married her love, Leopold Emanuel Lofters, “Bunny”. The union produced six wonderful children. Mummy loved all her children. She sacrificed many things to make sure her children never went without. In 1992, she migrated permanently to the United States to be with her family. Her children would add that she is a disciplinarian and commands respect regardless of the circumstance. The expected goal for all her children was always about solid love and success; follow her lead in being a positive contributor to society. In short, she expects and wants the best for children.
