Ruby Williams Kendall of New Haven was the second of twin girls born in July 1930 to the late Luther Williams and Ruth Barringer, in Badin, NC. On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, she departed this life in Hamden to await the return of our Lord and Savior.
Ruby was educated in Badin, NC before moving to New Haven where she furthered her education. She worked at Olin/Winchester Firearms before receiving her CNA certification. Mrs. Kendall worked at Yale-New Haven Hospital and retired from the Jewish Home for the Aged where many residents benefitted from her professionalism, caring and loving mannerisms.
Ruby loved clothes, shoes, and hats; other articles were just accessories. She and her twin Ruth were each other’s confidants and companions, with each one helping the other to raise their children. Ruby was an aficionado of early R&B music and theatrical plays. She loved her family, cooking, eating, feeding anyone who happened by. Ruby especially loved dining out with her family. Ruby did not miss any of her High School Class Reunions in North Carolina until her later years. A very loyal and protective person of family and friends and cared for both her terminally ill son and twin sister until their passing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Robert (Rayfort) Williams of New Haven, CT and Priscilla Richardson of New London, NC; grandchildren: Henry Richardson, Jr. (FL), Yolanda Williams (CA), Aaron Richardson (NC), Robert Williams Jr. (AZ), and Sheena Zmuda, (CT); siblings: Gloria Brigham (FL), Douglas Spencer, Brenda Ingram and Donald Spencer of NC., and a host of loving great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends residing in Connecticut, Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. Ruby was predeceased by her son Mark Williams and her twin sister Ruth Williams Ross.
A celebration of her life will take place Friday, February 28, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church, 28 Dickerman St, New Haven 06511. Friends may call Friday at the church from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. Services by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven 06511.
