Minister Ruther Dell Grannison Roberts, 75, of New Haven, CT peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022. She was born in Williamsburg County, SC on January 13, 1946 to Charlie Moore, Sr. and Ruth Grannison Moore.
Ruther grew up in Williamsburg County and relocated to New Haven, CT to live with her uncle, the late Bishop George Grannison, in 1962. When she moved to Connecticut, she loved to sing and was active in a cousins’ singing group called the Gospelettes.
Ruther worked for Winchester Repeating Arms, Olin Corporation, Pratt and Whitney, and General Dynamics-Electric Boat. In her later years she was employed with various healthcare agencies in New Haven County.
Ruther especially loved spending time with her family. She travelled all over the country to visit them. She loved to sing and her favorite songs were “The Last Mile of the Way” and ”My Soul Loves Jesus”. She also had a great sense of humor. During family dinners, holidays, and family reunions, she would laugh and make jokes.
Minster Roberts made Jesus the Lord of her life at a young age. She joined Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church, under the leadership of her uncle Bishop Grannison, and served there for many years. She later joined the Back to the Bible Church under the leadership of Overseer Viola Moore, where she maintained active membership until her death. She was active in the Home and Foreign Mission Ministry and the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. She was adamant about caring for the house of the lord. She was dedicated to her mission work and she did it with excellence and success. She would visit and partner with other ministries in New Haven County and would raise thousands of dollars to support her ministry efforts. She would use the funds to purchase Bibles for China, clothing, food, and toiletries to support local homeless shelters. She also would participate in Coat Drives, provide Thanksgiving Baskets, and Toys for Tots. In addition to her work in Connecticut, Minster Roberts also worked with international ministries in Haiti, Liberia, West Africa, and Jamaica, building water wells, churches and schools.
