Stanley Williams entered eternal rest on March 16, 2016, at Branford Hospice.
He was born in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands on August 25, 1925, son of the late Charles and Christophena Williams.
He immigrated to the US as a citizen in the early 1950s and by the mid 1950s settled in New Haven He was a member of the Construction & General Laborers Union 455, and worked on numerous projects in the city including the original James Hillhouse, Wilbur Cross and Lee High Schools with his crowning achievement being the British Art Museum, where he was a foreman. As a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, he served on the Vestry, Usher Board and Men’s Club for numerous years. He also chaired the Building and Grounds Committee and served on the Parish Hall construction committee in the mid 1960’s. As a skilled mason he spent endless hours in the church tower and advocated for the construction of the handicap bathroom. He spoke fluent Spanish and was a history and geography buff and faithfully read his National Geographic’s cover to cover. During his retirement along with his wife Joy, he occupied his time by gardening, doing home improvement projects, caring for his grandchildren after school and visiting the sick of St. Luke’s Church.
Stanley believed himself to be the richest man on earth! This was derived from the joy and satisfaction of watching his children and grandchildren succeed and thrive. Celebrating his life and legacy are his adoring wife Joy, daughters Virginia Williams, Donarine (James) Collins, Isabel (James) Bellamy, grandsons James (Danisha) and Kyle Collins, granddaughters Kyra and Leah Bellamy, and sister-in-law Hyacinth Miller and a host of Nieces and Nephews.
