Theresa P. Elm, born February 26, 1951, left this earthly realm unexpectedly at age 72, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She was born to the union of Alex and Geneva (Butler) Elm in Camden, South Carolina. As a child, she migrated to New Haven, Connecticut, with her parents.
Theresa’s aura consisted of a sweet disposition combined with a warm-hearted nature. She always displayed an avid interest in reading novels or documentaries. Her greatest past-times were international travel and she supremely enjoyed watching black cinema.
During her educational years in New Haven, she received her high school diploma at Wilbur Cross High School. As higher education was a part of her education, Theresa decided to matriculate into and continue her studies at South Central Community College (presently known as Gateway Community College). She was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology from Skidmore College, located in Saratoga Springs, New York. She continued her educational journey by achieving her Master’s Degree in Social Work from UConn located in Storrs, Connecticut in 1980.
Upon completing her formal education, her employment consisted of community support work with the homeless population at Columbus House, Inc. and with the City of New Haven at the Stetson Library, located on Dixwell Avenue. Additionally, Theresa engaged in her local neighborhood by participating in community discussions; a passion fueled by her mother, the late Geneva Elm.
She is predeceased by her mother, Geneva O. Elm and brother, Montgomery Elm. She leaves behind to preserve her memory, her benevolent siblings, Joyce E. Jacobs of Hamden, CT, Barbara A.
