Tucker Seaberry, 83

Tucker Seaberry was born in Dumas, Arkansas on June 29, 1936. He was the 6th child born of 9 children to the late George and Cora (Thomas) Seaberry.

When he was young, Tucker’s family moved to Kansas where he received his education by attending Grant elementary school, Northeast Jr. High school and Sumner High School. Tucker studied at Kansas City State College. He enjoyed going to church. He was a soloist in the choir.

In 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country for two years. Seeking work, he moved to New Haven in 1961 and lived with his brother the late George Seaberry Jr. Tucker worked at Copeland Construction Company and later was employed by Dalton Enterprise where he retired in 1990 after 29 years of service.

After moving to New Haven, he joined the Trinity Temple Church Choir. Tucker was also the president of the Youth Department at the church. He later joined Dixwell Congregation Church where he served on the Christian Education Board, Amistad, The Joyful Praise Choir and the D.U.C.C. Visionary and Development Team. Tucker would always say I volunteer to help my church when I can.”

Tucker was also very active in his community by serving on The Freetown Sierra Leone-New Haven Connecticut Sister Cities Program. In 2003, Tucker received the Distinguished Member Award in recognition of his devoted service to the Dixwell Church. In 2004, he also received a Fellowship Award for his endless dedication and service to every person who entered the doors of the Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church. He lived in New Haven for over 50 years.

Tucker loved his wife Carmay and family. He was a handsome, well-dressed man who loved fashion and frequently participated in local fashion shows. He had a passion for cooking and could be found in the kitchen making up wonderful dishes to serve his family. He enjoyed family reunions, traveling with his wife Carmay, family, and friends.

Tucker is predeceased by his parents George & Cora Seaberry, Step Mother, Ivory Seaberry, brothers George Seaberry, Leroy Seaberry, Johnnie Seaberry, Sisters Hattie Mae (Seaberry) Cofield, Mildred (Seaberry) Clark & Bernice (Seaberry) Estes, step-children Lucretia Wright and Ronald Estelle.

His memory will be cherished by his wife Carmay Seaberry, his Step-Son Tyrone Wright (Ethel), Step-Grandson Malcolm Estelle, sisters Thresa (Seaberry) Rogers, Kansas City, Missouri, Rosemarie (Seaberry), (Daniel) Williams, Kansas City, Kansas along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren and many friends.
