Wilbert Sutton, age 88, of New Haven, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the VA Hospital. He was the son of the late C.L. Sutton and Caroline Wheeler of Monticello, MS.
Wilbert served in the US Army for from 1953 – 1955. He met his sweet wife Minnie in high school and they married in 1954. This union bore seven children, Wilbert C, Trinka, Gregory (Tachema), Jeffery (Deceased), Patrick, Tanya, and Lamonte (Levonne); 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren. He worked several jobs before going to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, CT and was also a school bus driver during that time. After twenty-four years of service at Pratt, he retired in 1998. In retirement he worked as a school crossing guard for the City of New Haven.
He joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in 1964, where he was an active member until he passed. He was part of the Masonic Organization, where he held several leadership positions and obtained the 33rd Degree Status.
A celebration of his life will take place Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Tuesday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will be Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM at The CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Services by Howard K.
